Wildlife Report – Vole!

I’m working on clearing out a large slope area that has been undisturbed for many years. As I’m digging up weeds and turning over rocks, the ground spiders have been running away frantically and this vole is the first vertebrate I’ve run into here. I raked away some leaves and Mr. Vole came bursting out of his hole, scaring a shriek out of me! In retaliation I cornered him and made him pose for a photo before I let him run off into the trees.
Voles can cause a lot of damage in a garden by chewing the roots of plants, but I’ve never seen the evidence of this myself despite living beside them in great numbers at times. Thanks to the kitties!
